Get up to speed with the 4 short videos
Joann and Jeff have recorded for you.
Compassionate Divorce™ helps you and your family emerge from the major life event of separating or divorcing with a positive outcome. These short videos focus on the important topics that make this possible: 1) Protecting your family, 2) Respecting each other, 3) Protecting your assets, and 4) Staying out of the courtroom.
Joann Campoy is a Certified Family Law Specialist™ who has practiced family law exclusively throughout her career. She can handle the most complex (and simple) family law matters with ease and expertise. She is committed to reaching positive outcomes for both parties and believes that the therapeutic component is essential to support the human and legal aspects of divorce and separation.
Jeff and Joann are one team that works within the Sonoma County community. They do not have different mediators or professionals working with a couple, which may unnecessarily drive up costs. Their approach is more personalized and emphasizes one team for both parties. All of the couple's and the children's needs are addressed throughout their process.
From Joann:
"Partnering with the right psychologist assists me in understanding the family dynamics which helps settle cases. This leaves the parties in charge. Their feelings, fears and concerns are considered throughout the process and I am receiving valuable support and information from the psychologist to help me come up with the best possible solutions for settlement that meet everyone's needs as much as possible."
Jeff Kahn, Ph.D., a Licensed Psychologist in Sonoma County since 1980, Jeff has worked with separating and divorcing families, as a child psychologist, a child custody evaluator, family therapist, co-parent counselor, individual therapist and mediator. He also spent twenty years as a psychologist in the Psychiatry Department at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Rosa, CA where he provided group and individual therapy for adults. Jeff co-authored "Settlement-Focused Parenting Plan Consultations: An Evaluative Mediation Alternative to Child Custody Evaluations," which appeared in the January 2011 Family Court Review. He has also presented a number of times to local attorneys and therapists on topics such as Divorce and Trauma.
From Jeff:
"Having worked for many years with divorcing couples around interpersonal and parenting issues, I've witnessed the potentially long-term emotional impact on parents and children that can occur after parents make the difficult decision to separate or divorce. I am excited to be involved in a process in which I can offer input at the beginning of the separation and help the couple begin on a path of effective communication and problem-solving. I am very pleased to have the opportunity to partner with a family law attorney who utilizes my input to help couples create an outcome that can have long-lasting benefits for everyone in the family."
Beth Wanamaker, Psy. D has been working with separating and divorcing families since 2007. She was a mediator with Sonoma Superior Court, Family Court Services for over a decade and now, as a private practitioner.
Prior to her work in family law, she spent several years as a social worker for both Child Protective Services and substance abuse/ recovery programs. She also has extensive experience with the treatment of psychiatric disorders and psychiatric medications after completing her post-doctorate residency at a local psychiatric hospital.
Since 2020, she has worked with the children of divorcing and separating families as a clinical visitation supervisor, and also as a co-parenting educator and coach. Beth has a Master’s degree and a Doctorate in clinical Psychology.
From Beth:
"My desire is to guide individuals and families through challenging transitions while fostering empowerment, growth and positive outcomes. The thoughtful approach of integrating psychological insight with a legal expert resonates with my values and professional experience. It is truly rewarding to contribute to a process that not only protects client’s interests (and their children’s) but also promotes integrity, respect, and family-specific results. I am passionate about this work and proud to be a part of this amazing team."
