How I Came to Compassionate DivorceTM

Joann Campoy and I have been working with divorcing and divorced couples and families in Sonoma County for many years. Our paths have crossed numerous times, Joann in her role as family attorney, and I as a custody evaluator, parenting coordinator, individual therapist, or co-parent counselor.

She contacted me earlier this year about a project she was developing that would empower clients to be in charge of their own divorces and stay out of court. She explained that she wanted to have a psychologist present at the initial appointment and involved in the divorce process.

This was not a new concept, as Collaborative Divorce worldwide and Integrative Mediation in the Bay Area, were models I was familiar with and valued for prioritizing personal and interpersonal issues as a crucial aspect of any divorce.

This approach allows me, as the mental health professional, to offer insights about couple and family dynamics and to educate clients around child and parenting issues right from the outset, helping clients avoid many of the pitfalls that can derail divorce if not addressed.

When Joann asked me to help her create Compassionate Divorce™, I jumped at the opportunity to combine our individual areas of expertise and work as co-mediators with Joann's impressive legal experience and understanding of divorce dynamics that I so admire.

I am excited to have the opportunity to work with people at the beginning of their divorce journeys, and to help the divorce remain a life event rather than become a lifestyle .
